  • Honorable President of the people’s republic of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid said, ‘‘the actual aim of universities is to open up the door for fresh knowledge, invention, research, develop creative activities of the students’’. Addressing the 3rd convocation ceremony of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET), president said, “We have to face the future challenges by developing our knowledge and skill to international standard.” He hoped that the young engineers would play vital role in establishing a ‘Digital Bangladesh’ through real life applications of their creative ideas and technological knowledge. President asked authorities concerned to ensure time-befitting world standard education reviewing the ‘academic curriculum’ of global esteemed universities. If the universities fail to ensure quality education on the respective campuses, the president said, it would not succeed to cope with competitive world as per the demand of time. Addressing the KUET students, president said, “You're going to start your professional career after crossing a milestone in life. The country expects a lot from you. With your service, honesty and patriotism you’ll take your motherland to a new height.” On the impact of mobile phone and social media, he said the excessive use of facebook, games, and mails creating isolation in the society, weakening the family bonding while children are getting self-centered. “We must remember technology or mobile phones are not to be blamed for this, rather the responsibility goes to its users”, he said. “Free thinking and cultural activities are needed to be exercised in a greater extent at universities as the educational institutions not only aim to provide certificate but also contributes in developing merit, intellectual practice among students”, he added. Terming the engineering education a very important one to build the nation, the president said the engineering and technology-based education can turn mass people into manpower. “Engineers in their thoughts and spirits should be farsighted. They have to develop their knowledge and efficiency as international standard for facing the challenges of new technologies,” suggested the President. Congratulating the new graduates on the occasion of the convocation, he advised the graduates to devote themselves to the task of nation-building along with their professional activities. The president also advised the graduates not to bow down their head to injustice and untruth as well as not to destroy their respects and morality for their personal interest. On the occasion, a total of 2795 students were given graduation degree certificate, 228 others post-graduation degree certificates, 48 got Master of Philosophy (MPhil), eight conferred on Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and 38 graduates got ‘University Gold Medal’. Noted scientist and educationist Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Asgar was present as the convocation speaker. He said, the most ever adventurous journey of mankind is searching for knowledge. Universities are the lighthouses of knowledge. Our country as well as our world will get which shape depends on how the Universities of the world being shaped so far. Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan was present as Special Guest. He said, I am very much delighted to attended 3rd convocation of this University. I’ve already visited this University before for various programs. When I comes here, I’m always impressed to see the increasing overall developments of this university and clean-green campus. UGC will be providing all kinds of support in future to sustain the ongoing development of this university. KUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir said in his welcome speech, Students, Teachers, Researchers and Graduates of this University will roam everywhere from the bottom of the blue ocean to the blue sky. What we need is more advanced infrastructures, skilled manpower and a world class research friendly environment all over to make an inseparable bridge of knowledge, science & technology between teachers and students. Dean of Civil Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Kazi Hamidul Bari, Dean of Electrical & Electronic Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Abdur Rafiq, Dean of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Prof Dr Mihir Ranjan Haldar and Registrar of the University G M Shahidul Islam were present in the event. Among others Ministers, Members of parliament (MP), Vice-Chancellors, High Officials, Journalists, Guests, Teachers & Officers of KUET, Guardians were presents in the function.
